Your personal information will never be rented or sold to anyone.

It will only be used to send you the information you have requested and follow up information relating to course starting dates, remaining course positions and specially scheduled courses.

If at any time, you no longer wish to receive information from Australian News & Features Service and the The Australian College of Professional Styling, we ask that you please contact us via email at [email protected] with “STOP” in the subject heading. Please ensure you send the email from the subscribed email address or note the email address in the body of your email.

Every time a user visits our website, web analytics software generates an anonymous cookie. These cookies can tell us whether or not you have visited the site before. Your browser will tell us if you have these cookies, and if you don’t, new ones are generated.

This gives us information about how many individual unique users we have, and how often they visit the site. These cookies cannot be used to identify individuals; they are used for statistical purposes only.

Who are we?

British College of Interior Design develops and delivers The Professional Interior Design Course. We are a division of International News Syndicate who also provides courses under several other college names in the fields of journalism, professional styling and travel writing.

How do we collect personal data about you?

Information on this website is gathered in two ways:

• Directly when you provide information to us by way of our on-site forms or by direct contact

and

• Indirectly through our site’s technology (primarily cookies recording your visit to our site).

Why do we collect and use personal data?

We collect and use personal data to perform direct sales, direct marketing, customer service and student support. We may also collect data about suppliers, partners and persons seeking a job or working in our company.

We may use your information for the following purposes:

  • To send you marketing communications which you have requested. These may include information about our products and services, industry information or employment opportunities. This communication is subscription based and requires your consent. You may unsubscribe at any time.
  • To send you information about the products and services that you have purchased from us.

  • To provide you content and details on a course you signed up for.
  • To reply to a ‘Contact Me’ or other web forms you have completed on British College of Interior Design website (e.g. to download a course guide).

  • To provide access to our student portal after enrolment.
  • To perform contractual obligations such as enrolment confirmation, payment receipt, tutorial delivery, assignment return and similar.
  • To notify you about any disruptions to our services (system messages).
  • To contact you to conduct surveys about your opinion on our products and services.
  • To request further information in order to process a course application.
When do we collect personal data about you?
  • When you enquire about the course.
  • When you enrol and are undertaking our course.
  • When you interact with us in person, through correspondence, by phone, by social media, or through our websites.
  • We may collect personal data if it is considered to be of legitimate interest (such as age demographic), and if this interest is not overridden by your privacy interests. Before data is collected we make sure an assessment is made, ensuring that there is an established mutual interest between you and British College of Interior Design.
  • We DON’T collect personal information from other sources. We only have your data if you have provided this to us.

 

Our basis for collecting personal data

Processing personal data based on consent

From May 25th 2018 the collection and processing of personal data based on consent from the data subject will be done by using “Course Guide” forms (or enrolment application forms when you become a student). As of the inception of this privacy statement, British College of Interior Design is unable to obtain data from your form submission unless you specifically select the box to provide your consent.

Processing personal data based on contracts

We use personal information for fulfilling our obligations related to contracts and agreements with students, graduates and suppliers.

Processing personal data based on legitimate interest

We may use personal data collected prior to the inception of this privacy statement to advise of the latest in course starting dates and potential special offers, as it is considered to be of legitimate interest. A legitimate interest has been established on the basis the British College of Interior Design obtained the personal data directly from the data subject when they expressed an interest in the course offered by the College. The British College of Interior Design never uses data provided by third-party other sources. To establish a legitimate interest for data collection & processing, it has been identified that a mutual interest between British College of Interior Design and the individual person exists. This legitimate basis is primarily related to our sales and marketing purposes. We will always inform individuals about their privacy rights and the purpose for collecting personal data. Data subjects can opt out of receiving mail at any time and are welcome to make requests in relation to how their data is processed – please see “YOUR RIGHTS TO YOUR PERSONAL DATA” below for further details.

What type of personal data is collected?

We collect name and email address. We may also collect feedback, comments and questions received from you in service-related communication and activities, such as meetings, phone calls, documents, and emails. From some of our college associated websites (such as the student portal) we may collect IP-address and actions taken on the site.

If you upload photos or videos, add posts or comments, etc. on our social media sites, the information can be read by anyone with access to the social media page and used for purposes over which British College of Interior Design or you have no control. Therefore, British College of Interior Design is not responsible for any information you submit to social media sites.

If you apply for a job at British College of Interior Design, we collect the data you provide during the application process.

British College of Interior Design does not collect or process any special categories of personal data, such as public unique identifiers or sensitive personal data.

How long do we keep your personal data?

We store personal data for as long as we find it necessary to fulfil the purpose for which the personal data was collected, while also considering our need to answer your queries or resolve possible problems, to comply with legal requirements under applicable laws, to attend to any legal claims/complaints, and for safeguarding purposes.

This means that we may retain your personal data for a reasonable period of time after your last interaction with us. When the personal data that we have collected is no longer required, we will delete it in a secure manner. We may process data for statistical purposes, but in such cases, data will be anonymised.

Your rights to your personal data

You have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • The right to request a copy of your personal data that British College of Interior Design holds about you. Please simply request this by email at [email protected].
  • The right to request that the British College of Interior Design corrects your personal data if inaccurate or out of date. Please email a request for your details to be updated by emailing [email protected].
  • The right to request that your personal data is deleted when it is no longer necessary for the British College of Interior Design to retain such data. At this time, all personal details will be removed and the record will be anonymised.  Please note, upon anonymization, all previous offers will be null and void as there will no longer be anyway to identify your previous record.
  • The right to withdraw any consent to personal data processing at any time. For example, your consent to receive e-marketing communications:
    • If you want to withdraw your consent to e-marketing, please use the unsubscribe link included in our communication. Please note, if you are a student, you may still receive system messages and administrative communications from the British College of Interior Design, such as order tutorials, system messages and notifications about your account activities.
  • The right to request that the British College of Interior Design provides you with your personal data and, if possible, to pass on this information directly to another data controller when the processing is based on consent or contract.
  • The right to request a restriction on further data processing, in case there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your personal data.
  • The right to object to the processing of personal data, in case data processing has been based on legitimate interest and/or direct marketing.

We use cookies to collect information as you navigate the college’s website and student portal.

One example of information we collect indirectly from you is through our Internet access logs. When you access this site your Internet address is automatically collected and is placed in our Internet access logs. However, we will do what we can to ensure that your privacy rights continue to be protected.

Use of sub-contractors (processors and sub-processors)

We may use sub-contractors to process personal data on our behalf, we are responsible for making sure they commit themselves to adhere to this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation by signing a Data Processing Agreement.

The British College of Interior Design reserves the right to amend this Privacy Statement at any time. The applicable version will always be found on our website. We encourage you to check this Privacy Statement occasionally to ensure that you are happy with any changes.
